More blogging tips from ActiveRainIn the
introduction to blogging i discussed how
blogs are used and how it can be a benefit to your business. Today I wanted to touch base with you to talk a little on how to get started.
In my opinion the best way to begin
blogging is through finding
other blogs that you enjoy. Search, browse, read around, pay attention to what type of topics and writing appeals to you. You will learn a lot through this. Through it you will develop an idea of how you want to approach your blog and what to write about.
I started that way myself. While I was searching I found blogs with the information I was looking for. I enjoyed a lot of what I found. I became a regular reader of a few blogs. After I got the "feel" for it I began responding to those blogs; leaving my own comments on what the authors were writing about. It wasn't long after that I started my own
blog. Those people who's
blogs I was reading began posting on my own. Essentially what happened is we developed a network of people who helped eachother with information and ideas.
How you decide to approach blogging ultimately is up to you. As you do however I have some key points I would encourage you to consider.
- Write about topics you are interested in, be sure to make it fun. If you don't have anything to say then don't post anything. Chances are if you're not interested or having fun with what you're writing then potential readers won't either.
- Update your blog regularly. Readers usually check their favorite blogs on a regular basis. If they see you haven't posted for a while they are less likely to return.
- Be sure to read and comment on other blogs you like it helps develop your network.
- Set up an associates list and ActiveRain will give you a link where you can read all of your associate's blogs in once central space. It's a great way to get updates from friends and colleagues.
- Go ahead and quote someone else, paste in information relevant to your interests. But be sure to credit the author. Plagerism is unethical and is considered bad form in the bloggosphere.
- As I stated before, blogs can either be personal, or factual, but either way they should express some aspect of you. Blogs work best when they are original.
Sharing is one of the core ideas behind the Internet, blogging, and this network. I always look forward to tips and input from others.
