I've seen a lot of blogs on ActiveRain. Many of you are talking about so many different topics that it's hard not to stay interested. I've seen posts specifically related to sales, the tried and trued tips, and the trials and tribulations that many of us in this industry go through. Those have helped me gain an understanding that there are others out there going through the same issues, and I've learned from those experiences.
At the same time I've read posts talking about members themselves their lives and their families, nothing to do with real estate or this industry. I enjoy those posts too. They are not always relevant on the surface nor do they need to be. They have their value and their place here. Others will always have the option not to read them.
There is however one type of post I've seen that I do not appreciate and honestly, I don't feel is appropriate for this space. The posts I dislike are those type of posts that bread unnecessary anger fear or resentment. Often these are rants, but not just rants, they posts that often specifically target another individual here on ActiveRain, or otherwise.
I learned long ago one way to be successful in sales is to never disrespect anyone. That is especially true when it comes to the blogs that speak to ranting. There is a way to constructively express criticism. There is even a right way to express anger.
It's most often true that when you speak judgmentally of someone else you are usually opening up yourself to the same type of judgments. I learned the hard way that when a potential client is speaking poorly of another agent
they have been working with then it's likely they'll soon be finding fault with me.
These are friends and colleagues. In competition or not, be a good sport. We are all here to grow. Please do not degrade The Network or yourself.

Well said Caleb. Disrespecting someone makes you look bad, not them.
I try to surround myself with positive energy.
Caleb,
GMTA. I just posted something along the same lines.

I'm glad we're on the same page.
It is sad that it needs to be said, but you said it well, Caleb. Thanks! I rambled on about this very topic in my comment on Karen Hurst's blog, if you want to know what I REALLY think... Muah! Ha! Ha!

Great post Caleb... articulate, to the point and oh so true. This should be kept as a featured post until more people have a chance to read it.

All of these posts should be "Members Only Posts". I am, frankly, embarrassed by the judgements being made... and thankful for those of you who have spoken up in defense of those less eloquent or less experienced than the elitists.
We should all be allowed to express ourselves in our own way. Maybe I'm one of the crappy bloggers. Maybe not. It doesn't matter, because you will either read my blog or not. It's up to you. It's not up to anyone to tell others to judge me or anyone.
The topic of point cheaters is a whole different matter...and should be fairly easily remedied.
Agree Caleb..good post and if we want to recruit a "community" we need to all learn to treat others as you would want to be treated..cliche as it may be
Mary is right, we reflect our professionalism by the way we act/react.
Hey Caleb,
I was thinking about this topic less than a week ago when I read someone else's blog. Pointing fingers is childish. Focus on being the professionals that we are and respecting each other to show clients and the Real Estate Community that Active Rain is for real!

My blogs don't seem to attract a lot of readers based on the feedback...so I have been fortunate not to be a victim.
I think it's a great idea to have some ground rules for Active Rain Blogs.
Lauren,
Which blog was it?
I have experienced the same thing. I go back and look at my initial blogs and think, "YIKES!," did I really write this stuff?
Don't stop bloggin!
Rich- Wow !! That was fast !! I was editing my comment just as you were responding to it....I needed help with suggestions on how to prepare for an interview with a large developer who is building several homes and I am interviewing today to be the main Agent on this project. My interview is in two hours.
Sometimes the lack of responses on my blogs makes me think that I'm not an effective person with strong presence... I usually blend into the woodwork anyways. I was voted most likely to succeed back in Jr, High. How dorky is that ?? I'm still a dork, just older.
Thanks for the interest. That was nice of you.
Thanks for writing about the benefits of networking with our fellow activerain agents.
I believe everyone in this network has a wealth of knowledge that we can tap into.
Thanks Caleb. Now, maybe that will be the end of all this mess! My suggestion is that on our own individual pages a link that when you are new, you can read what a blog is, What AR is, and some of the things NOT to do as well as the encouragement to start blogging. That would give a heads-up to someone just beginning this process and would let them know what is considered spam along with an example for the folks that are as dense as I am when it comes to determining whether they are spamming or not.
Just a suggestion...
Caleb,
this will become increasingly important as membership invites are handed out at NAR. As communities rapidly expand, mores are difficult to keep in place.
