Who To Write To?

speaker in front of Audience ActiveRain is a wonderful place to accomplish two things.

The first and most obvious today is that ActiveRain is the premiere place online where you can connect with other real estate professionals from around the country.

The second is to connect with consumers. This has always been a part of ActiveRain, but until recently there hasn’t been a push toward it.

With all the posting going on a lot of members are writing and asking me what is expected of their blog posts.

I have to say that what is expected is that your conversations and posts do one of two things. Work to help educate, enlighten, or uplift members of this community, or educate, and enlighten consumers.

Your posts should target one of two audiences. Some have critiqued that the points system is set up to favor posts directed at the AR community as opposed to consumers. We are constantly adjusting this but both are important.

Connecting with others in this industry via ActiveRain will help you in a great number of ways that will in the long run, help you both on ActiveRain, and in your off=line world.

Connecting with consumers, is also essential as putting yourself in front of your customer is what it’s all about.

Your audience is going to be different depending upon who you are. Of course if I was a title rep most of my posts would be oriented toward those professionals in the industry that help me gain business. But as a loan officer or a real estate agent I’d be more likely to focus on a home buyer or seller.

So when you’re posting think about your audience, and consider your business. Be a part of this community and reach out to both.

Thanks Caleb, This helps clarify things for me. As a new blogger I need to remember who I want to target and to speak from the heart...let everything else fall where it may!

Thanks

Hey Caleb, When I write I always try to write to both in every post. I am giving info for my peers and insight to the consumers. Matt had posted a comment on the recent Mark Flanders post, about categorising posts to one or the other. I always categorize to both. Is this wrong?

edited: Ok never mind I got my answer from Matt on the other post.

For the record it's not wrong!  ;)

Blog Often, Blog Well, Blog Specific....You're preachin' to the choir here, Caleb! I deliberatly attempt to speak to both audiences, but lately, I am focusing more on posting good local content. I've noticed some favor being granted in points to local content posts. Variet and balance is a good thing!

Points created the ActiveRain dialogue - they'll create the Localism dialogue as well. It will be fun when the consumers start interacting.

Broker Bryant is the MASTER of posting to AR members AND the public in one post.  I can't do it.  I find myself posting to one or the other.  My postings to AR members are always the most commented on and get more activity, but my posts about my local community are the ones that make the phone ring.  I lean more towards Localism content now.

Caleb,

Thanks for the venue that we might accomplish both of those goals.  I know I'm trying to do this.  Keep pushing us to move the needle in the right direction!

AR is a real asset to the real estate community, here we can network with each other, learn from each other and at the same time reach prospects; couldn't ask for more.  Thanks to the team for the continued enhancements.

Important points, Caleb.  The points are great, but most useful here in the network.  The writing that meets the points you make is informative, encouraging and keeps me here!

Thanks Caleb.  I think I sometimes blog too much to the AR community and not enough to consumers.  This is a reminder for me to try and pick it up a notch.

Well put Caleb - I just wrote a blog today thanking those that have been so good to me in my short 2 weeks as a member.  It is title "And the Oscar goes to??-Active Rain and you my friend".  I am amazed at the information available on this site.  I hope everyone realizes the value and implements the ideas that are here.  Have a great weekend.

Thanks Caleb.  I just joined Active Rain yesterday and as such, I have a lot to learn.  I haven't yet posted my first blog but am looking forward to doing so.  It is nice to have some pointers.  I used to write technical manuals.  This is a different world.

Great post. I am just warming up as an active participant so that I can learn the basics so I began by commenting on others' posts and just posted my first 2 real estate blogs for people in the industry. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about secure blogging and then I'll be good to go.

Caleb - I'm confused. This is the second post today that is showing comments from dates long before the posting of the blog.  What's happening?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject. I know that sometimes I am specifically writing to consumers, but many other times to both. On a few occasions only to members. I try to always keep the audience, or the expected audience in mind, but not sure that is always the case. I appreciate the continued reminders as someone who is pretty new to all this.

I've visited many on-line real estate communities trying to find a good on-line source for information, thoughts, networking and so forth. I found what I was looking for when I visited Active Rain. I must say this community is a wonderful place for anybody buying, selling or in the real estate profession. I'm blown away at all the excellent information available here. AR is the premier place to connect with other real estate professionals and potential clients. Great Post!

Good post.    It is often easy to use ActiveRain to comunicate with other realtors, but we/I need to keep in mind the intent is to reach our end consumers - potential clients

Again thanks for the post.

What I appreciate about Active Rain is that there are so many opportunities to explore and create a niche.  This post is helpful in explaining how to set the appropriate perimeters.
